Religion is very different here from what I am used to in the United States. In America, I feel that most people practice their religion at their place of worship or at home and you don't see much of it out in public. Although, that is not the case here in Morocco. As we were in the Silk store in the Medina, I walked to the back of the store where I saw our tour guide on the floor, on a carpet on the ground, praying. I thought this was an amazing sight. The fact that that man and others here in Morocco are willing to be vulnerable and stop what they are doing, even if they are out in public to pray, is pretty amazing.

Also, with that willingness to be vulnerable, comes a sense of togetherness. We saw this when we had our blessing dinner. As the music started in the street, I thought it was amazing to see how people were coming out of all the stores and homes to watch. Everyone was smiling and interacting with the music. This shows how this community is willing to be vulnerable and come together with their religion.

Although, they are very willing to vulnerable with their faith they do not have any tolerance for religions that in any way infringe on the Islamic faith. The “Commander of the Faithful”, the king, hold the power of protecting the Islamic faith. With this their is a law that prohibits any type of group that infringes on the Islamic faith. https://www.state.gov/reports/2020-report-on-international-religious-freedom/morocco/

  1. The reason that they must be faithful with the times of prayer is stated in the Koran. They must oblige by the 5 times a day because if not that is the fastest way to lose faith known as salat. To be a muslim you do not have to pray 5 times a day however it is believed you will lose faith and grasp of one of the five pillars.
